What a carpool seat should cost
How owners price a seat, the difference between per trip and per month, and how to compare listings fairly.
Cost sharing, not a fare
A carpool seat is a contribution towards a trip the owner was making anyway — fuel, and wear on the car. It is not a taxi fare, and an owner who prices it like one will not fill the seat.
That is also why Pool prices are usually well below a ride-hailing app for the same route.
Per trip or per month
Every price on Pool says which it is. Per trip means you pay each time you travel. Per month means a fixed amount for a month of seats on that route, which is how most daily commutes in Pakistan are actually arranged.
The distinction matters when you compare: PKR 350 a trip and PKR 350 a month are completely different offers. Always read the unit next to the number.
Working out a fair number
A reasonable starting point is the fuel for the trip divided by the number of people in the car, plus a little for wear. Owners who publish a price tend to fill seats faster than those who leave it open.
Some listings say Ask instead of a number. That means the owner wants to agree it with you directly — settle it on WhatsApp before the day of travel, not in the car.
